I went out, dutifully, and took the usual selection of photos yesterday but was looking down the garden this morning – after a 5k trot around the local roads, although one grandson in a recent visit informed me that according to his amazing bells and whistles watch, it’s only 4k 😬 – I thought the garden looked much better as a whole. So I’ve included a couple of long shots as well. The garden is going berserk at the moment as you may see.

1)

The first (and last) picking of garden peas. The plants did well although the yield was disappointing, but very tasty.

2)

The jackmanii is getting revved up ready to explode into flower. Each year it amazes me with the amount of blooms it produces.

3)

This delphinium seemed a paler blue when it started opening its buds, but has deepened slightly.

4)

The nasturtiums are coming on nicely although some of the leaves are turning a bit yellow. I have another hanging basket of them near the front door and a little flowerpot on the fence opposite these ones. There are many different colours, I’m very happy with them this year.

5)

The Morning Glory are starting to climb up the trellises with a little guidance from a few twigs.

6)

As promised, here are a couple of long shots. Unfortunately, the eye is drawn to the plastic containers covering the cabbages and Swiss Chard……..never mind, the rest looks all right.

Hint of the week:

if deadheading poppies, do the ones at the back first. If you do the ones at the front first, when you lean over them, you get a nice, brown stain (which doesn’t wash out) on your clean shirt. 😱πŸ€ͺ Silly me.

(The poppies are beautiful though.)

Have a good weekend in your garden. πŸ…πŸŒΉπŸ¦‹πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ

  1. I approve of your tips regarding stains, another one in the same vein is change into your gardening clothes first! What a lovely clematis. Enjoy your week.

  2. The poppy laundry tip is excellent! You must be loving spending time in that garden lately. I have not had amazing luck with climbing peas either this year, gut my bush peas ‘Tom Thumb’ make up for it. Have a good week, Granny!

  3. Actually my eye was drawn by the beautiful tree you have towards the bottom of your garden, I remember it from earlier in the year when it was pink, it’s a Tamarisk if I remember correctly? Really effective, as it draws the eye up to the trees beyond the garden. I like the Nasturtiums in hanging baskets, pretty and edible too of course (top tip: try wrapping the leaves around cream cheese, they are surprisingly ‘spicy’).

  4. I never even noticed the bottles until you mentioned them and when I did I thought they looked quite good – ‘a feature’ of sorts. Your garden looks beautiful. Lots of colour and I really like the round island bed. I’m half tempted to forget that the slugs always finish off delphiniums in my garden and buy another one after seeing yours.

  5. How do you keep the slugs off of your Delphiniums? My Morning Glories are slowly climbing but no flowers yet. Good to be reminded of their beautiful colour. Your garden is looking great, I always love seeing long shots

    1. Good morning. Yes, I prune the jackmanii down to about 30 cm each spring, although I do a “tidy up” in autumn if it is too straggly. I like the idea of little Druids having a party. πŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸΉπŸŽ‰

  6. Your garden is sooo neat and tidy! Mine looks like a jungle! Do you tie in that jackmanii – it too looks quite neat. And 5k or 4k is impressive if you do it every day – and what do these youngsters know anyway πŸ˜‚

    1. It’s amazing how a mown lawn and neat edges give the impression of a tidy garden. If the weather would improve, I could sit and enjoy looking at it. Yes, I do tie back the jackmanii and I have thinned it out quite a bit this year. I actually only do my 4(5?)k once a week…….it takes me the rest of the week to recover. πŸ™„πŸ˜πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ
